CPR stands for cardiopulmonary resuscitation. It is an emergency procedure that combines chest compressions and rescue breaths to maintain blood flow and oxygenation in someone who has suffered a cardiac arrest.

CPR is important because it can keep blood flowing and oxygenated to the brain and other vital organs until professional medical help arrives. This can greatly increase the chances of survival for someone who has suffered a cardiac arrest.

Anyone can learn CPR, and it is recommended for anyone who wants to be prepared in case of an emergency. This includes parents, teachers, healthcare professionals, and anyone who works with the public.

AHA CPR (American Heart Association Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) and BLS (Basic Life Support) classes both cover essential life-saving techniques, but there are key differences in their content and intended audience.

AHA CPR Classes:

  • Content: These classes generally focus on basic CPR techniques for adults, children, and infants. They teach skills like chest compressions, rescue breaths, and using an automated external defibrillator (AED).
  • Audience: They are often aimed at the general public, including parents, caregivers, Educators, Childcare, Police Officers, Lifeguards, Security and anyone interested in learning CPR.
  • Certification: The certification lasts for 2 years and is often referred to as a "Heartsaver CPR" card.

AHA BLS Classes:

  • Content: BLS training is more comprehensive and includes advanced skills beyond basic CPR, such as team-based resuscitation techniques, airway management, and the use of bag-mask ventilation. It covers adult, child, and infant CPR, as well as how to handle choking emergencies and recognize signs of cardiac arrest.
  • Audience: This course is designed for healthcare professionals and first responders, including doctors, nurses, paramedics, and others who need to perform resuscitation as part of their job.
  • Certification: The certification also lasts for 2 years and is commonly known as a "BLS for Healthcare Providers" card.

In summary, while both classes teach CPR, BLS is more advanced and tailored for those in healthcare or emergency response roles, whereas AHA CPR is geared toward the general public.
